Our Story
Welcome to E&S!
E&S was established in Louisville, KY in 1989 by Walter Shannon. Today, E&S is operated by Shannon and his wife, Cathy. Over 30+ years, E&S grew from a 2,500 square foot strip mall location to its current 11,000+ square foot gallery, custom framing, and art publishing company.

A National Reputation, Built in Louisville
E&S is an award-winning gallery known for exquisite custom framing and collectible artwork. Since 2015, American Art Awards has named E&S “Best Gallery in Kentucky” and one of the “Top 25 Galleries in the U.S.” The gallery represents masters including Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, Richard Mayhew, and Ed Dwight, alongside renowned contemporaries.
Clients include Bridgeman Foods, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., PNC Bank, the Tom Joyner Foundation, the National Urban League, and private collectors including Kem, Sinbad, Bob Johnson, Dr. Donda West, and Muhammad Ali.
E&S has been featured in Decor, Art Business News, Art Trends, Black Enterprise, and Southern Living, and has mounted professional exhibitions at nationally recognized conferences and cultural events.

About 98% of E&S's business comes from outside Kentucky. The Shannons built the gallery's national collector base by taking art on the road to conferences, exhibitions, and fairs across the country.
E&S also played a role in art history through Cathy Shannon's account of Carnegie Mellon University's 1931 rejection of a young Elizabeth Catlett. E&S later hosted Catlett's final lifetime exhibition in 2009.
